Description

The first ever CD of music by the English composer Robert Still (1910-1971), comprising the following recordings made in the 1950s:

  • Quintet for Three Flutes, Violin & Cello  from Argo RG 74 (1955)
  • Viola Sonata No.2 from Argo RG 74 (1955)
  • Six songs for Soprano (Heather Harper) from Record Society RS 60 (1959)
  • Six songs for Baritone (John Carol Case)  from Record Society RS 60 (1959)
  • Two further songs recorded live at a Wigmore Hall Concert in October, 1959.

The accompanying 16-page booklet includes:

  •  Olga Lehmann’s original distinctive artwork for the sleeve of RG 74
  • a portrait of  the composer
  • Deryck Cooke’s analytical notes for the chamber works
  • a note on the composer by his widow, Mrs Elizabeth Still
  • texts of all 14 songs.
